Morganton Department of Public Safety is seeking individuals of high character to join the Public Safety team. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age, a United States citizen, a high school graduate or equivalent, be of good moral character as verified by a background investigation, and have good credit history.

Under the Public Safety concept, Public Safety Officers (PSO’s) provide police and fire services to those within the city limits of Morganton, NC. The purpose of the program is to better utilize police and fire personnel, increase effectiveness, and provide higher quality services to the citizens of Morganton than traditional police and fire departments. Public Safety Officers are cross-trained in both law enforcement and fire fighting.

The department is allocated 70 full-time sworn positions, 18 full-time civilian positions, 16 full-time fire engineer positions and 28 part-time positions. Public Safety Officers and Fire Engineers work 12 hour shifts, with every other weekend off. Two platoons are assigned to day shift and two platoons are assigned to nights.
