DUTIES
Processes and operations for the protection of life and property through the enforcement of federal and state laws as well as municipal ordinances. Patrolling the city limits of St. James, responding to calls for service, conducting preliminary investigations, enforcing traffic and parking laws, Participating in Community Policing activities, investigating traffic related incidents, writing reports, pursuing and detaining suspects, and making arrests.
Applicants should have excellent communication skills and a history of demonstrated common sense and sound decision-making. Applicants must be able to analyze situations quickly and objectively.
Conditions present high stress and threat to personal safety during periods of search and seizure and arrest. You may be exposed to toxic materials, bloodborne pathogens and other infectious environment. You may have to deal with unruly or dangerous individuals, unsafe building sites and deadly force and always risk the possibilities of injury. You may be required to extend work schedule during emergency situations and called in at any time to work a shift.
Officers may be scheduled to work an 8 hour shift or 12 hour shifts. 12 hour shifts have a 3 day weekend (Fri/Sat/Sun) every other week.

Additional Requirement:
All candidates for the position of Police Officer must meet the following minimum qualifications in order to apply:
Be a U.S. citizen
Citizen of Missouri at the time of employment
Valid Missouri Drivers License at the time of employment
Be at least 21 years of age at commission
Have a high school diploma or GED
Missouri POST Certified
Salary/Benefits: $28,282 annual
