Clark Regional Emergency Services Agency (CRESA) is currently hiring for 9-1-1 Call-Taker / Dispatcher. All testing must be completed by November 7, 2014.

Salary Information: $20.55 – $31.86 per hour. (Entry level candidates start at $20.55)

Job Description:

9-1-1 Call-Takers answer and process 9-1-1 calls and perform Emergency Medical Dispatch for callers with medical response needs. In addition to all Call-Taking duties, 9-1-1 Communications Dispatchers also dispatch police, fire and medical services.

Call-Taking and Dispatching work requires extensive computer skills, data entry, critical thinking and independent judgment. Call-Takers and Dispatchers must handle calls from angry, scared, depressed or impaired callers. They must think quickly and make correct decisions in stressful and life-threatening situations. Once hired, Dispatchers-in-Training go through extensive on-the-job training to learn all aspects of 9-1-1 call-taking and, if selected for additional training as a Dispatcher, dispatching for police, fire and medical services. Call-Taking training takes approximately 6+ months. Dispatcher training takes approximately 16 to 20 months.

Department Overview: CRESA’s motto is “Always Here, Always Ready.” CRESA provides 9-1-1 Call-Taking and Public Safety Dispatch, Emergency Management and regional governmental radio system operation and maintenance for all the jurisdictions within Clark County, Washington.

Area Information: CRESA is located in the City of Vancouver within Clark County, Washington. The region offers abundant cultural and recreational opportunities. Washington has no state income tax.

Population: Service population – approximately 424,000.

 

Job Requirements:

Age – 18

Education – High School Grad/GED

Experience – One year of intensive customer interaction

 

Additional Requirement:

US Citizen: Lawfully work in US

High School Grad/GED: Yes

Valid WASHINGTON State Driver’s License: No

Ability to Read/Speak English: Yes

Vision: Candidates must be able to see, read and understand written information in all forms, including handwritten, hard copy or electronic communications formats. Ability to see color differentiation as necessary to distinguish color variations on maps and computer screens.

 

Minimum Job Qualifications:

  • One+ year of recent, full-time work experience with intensive customer interaction.
  • Excellent computer skills, knowledge and experience.
  • Accurate and rapid data entry.
  • Proven critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to pass all other stages of the Recruitment / Selection process including CritiCall exam, oral interviews, comprehensive Background Investigation, and post-job offer medical exams including a Psychological Evaluation, drug screen, general medical exam, baseline vision and baseline hearing tests.
  • Ability to perform the essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
